Since then she has worked with adolescent and adult populations in inpatient and outpatient settings. Prior to graduation, Nicky held internships at a private practice that specialized in working with a population with cognitive disabilities and at Intermountain Psychiatric Hospital. She is drawn to helping others recognize the innate strength and resiliency within themselves. Nicky is particularly passionate in working with trauma survivors and substance use.
She believes in the importance of connection in the therapeutic journey. She operates from a belief that the therapeutic relationship is one centered in trust, partnership, acceptance, and openness. Her theoretical orientation includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Person-Centered Therapy, and a Strengths-Based approach.
Nicky moved to Boise in 2018 with her German Shepard from the mountains of Western North Carolina. Prior to working in mental health Nicky has a background working as a backpacking and adventure tour guide. When the weather is nice Nicky enjoys spending as much time outside as she can, especially hiking and mountain biking. When at home she enjoys listening to alternative folk music, drinking herbal tea and trying her hand at sushi-making.
