Blaine is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) who earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Counseling from Idaho State University in 2016. He obtained his Master’s in Counseling from Idaho State University in 2007, where his Master's degree had an emphasis in Marriage, Couples, and Family counseling. He has worked in both private practice and community mental health settings since becoming a licensed counselor. Most recently, he has been an instructor of Counselor Education with a specific focus on supervision and clinical training.
He is excited to be back working with clients. He uses a humanistic and Gestalt orientation to counseling, as he firmly believes that you cannot progress in counseling without the foundation of a solid, trusting, and therapeutic relationship. Along with a humanistic focus, he believes in the power of Mindfulness-Based interventions while being trauma-informed in his approach. As a counselor, he is passionate about helping clients navigate life's challenges, achieve personal growth, and build resilience.
Currently, he is gaining experience and training in Somatic Experiencing, which is a trauma-informed approach. As part of his training, he will have regular consultation with Somatic Experiencing Practitioners. In sessions, he may incorporate certain Somatic Experiencing techniques and principles, such as interoception, proprioception, tracking, titration, pendulation, resourcing, and completion of self-protective responses. These techniques help individuals develop a conscious awareness of internal bodily sensations and work with small, manageable "bits" of difficult experiences to avoid re-traumatization. He may guide clients to pay close attention to physical sensations, explore positive experiences or feelings of strength in the body, or shift attention between different sensations. Please know that he will always prioritize clients' comfort and safety, and these techniques will be offered as gentle invitations, never as requirements. Clients will always have the choice whether or not to explore Somatic Experiencing techniques in sessions. He believes that incorporating these somatic strategies can enhance the work together and provide additional pathways to healing and growth. He is happy to answer any questions clients may have about Somatic Experiencing and how it may be integrated into sessions.
Blaine has lived in Boise off an on since 1988. He has fond memories of the Boise River Festival, running around trails in the foothills before they were named. To this day, you can find Blaine running or biking in the foothills or on the Greenbelt with his pup, Wally (aka Ser Walter Featherbottoms).
