Leo is a third-year graduate student in the Masters of Counselor Education program at Boise State University. He is a former high school teacher who has long been an advocate for students and their needs in order to be successful both in and out of the classroom. Tapping into his bilingual background and upbringing when appropriate, Leo appreciates weaving in cultural nuance and understanding, especially as it pertains to family systems. He also acknowledges the power of language and story-
telling, and how that can shape our inner world and outer expressions. Leo is passionate about relationship-building and creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment to explore whatever the client brings to session.
Leo’s theoretical approach is still taking shape but is most grounded in Adlerian Therapy, a goal-oriented humanistic approach that upholds each individual’s inherent strengths and unique personality. He also ties in cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques to help clients learn about and manage challenging emotions, beliefs, or behaviors. Leo enjoys working with anyone and everyone, and has particular experience with adolescents, adults, couples, and groups.
Leo officially moved to Boise in 2022, but began visiting in 2014 after meeting his future spouse. As a former educator, he has a background in European history, French and Francophone cultures, secondary education, and language-learning. Leo is very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and often listens to Ukrainian radio. In his free time, Leo enjoys exercising, listening to lo-fi, cooking, cleaning, practicing taekwondo, watching college football, and playing Magic the Gathering. Leo’s schedule revolves around his 1-year-old son and his cat, Pearl.
